SureFly
Electronic Ignition
Aero Recip (Canada) Ltd offers the SureFly solid state magneto as an option on many Lycoming and Continental engine overhauls. Aero Recip has found the SureFly Ignition Module to be a reliable modern alternative to conventional magneto ignition systems. Many of our customers are choosing SureFly at overhaul time.
“SureFly is a FAA certified (Solid State) magneto replacement. The SureFly Ignition Module (SIM) replaces one magneto – generally the left or impulse-coupled/starting magneto on most aircraft engines. Four and six cylinder SIMs are available for Lycoming and Continental engines.”
SureFly’s engine and airframe STCs have recently been amended to allow the use of two SIMs on an engine. Dual SIM installation typically would require the use of a dedicated battery backup system. Please refer to SureFly’s Airframe Installation Instructions SF2001.
SureFly solid state magnetos are designed to operate trouble and virtually maintenance free to 2400 hours, at which time the unit(s) can be returned to SureFly for evaluation or replaced with a new unit. Five hundred hour inspections are not required. Instructions For Continued Airworthiness are contained in Document No. SF1005.
SureFly’s Application Guide SF2010
Provides a detailed list of airframe applicability as well as detailed notes pertinent to installation on specific aircraft. It is very important to read all information provided with a SureFly solid state magneto kit. Detailed instructions regarding installation, timing and setup are provided. For example, timing to the engine is set differently than a conventional magneto, and variable ignition timing may or may not be appropriate for your installation. SureFly recommends installation of single SIMs in the starting magneto position, as well as their units are designed to work with Slick ignition harnesses.
And finally, please carefully assess your aircraft/engine for other modifications/STCs, which may be affected by the installation of a solid state ignition system. Multiple modifications/STCs may adversely affect one another and lead to an unsafe situation.
